A farm co-op is a business model that can help you to reach these goals and achieve a more balanced lifestyle.

Shared Load

Reduced Stress:

Stop carrying the entire operation on your shoulders. By implementing clear governance, you share the massive workload, turning a solo burden into a shared advantage.

Time for Life:

Achieve a reasonable work schedule.  Aim to take 2-day weekends for example! The co-op structure can allow you to finally take a summer vacation, sick days, or holidays because the team has systems to cover you.

Work-Life Balance:

A co-op can make it possible to gain the comfort, flexibility, and financial stability necessary to create a true work-family balance.

Business Resilience and Growth

Collective Strength

Benefit from the strengths and specialized knowledge of your colleagues, multiplying your farm's success beyond what any one person could achieve.

Fair Profit-Sharing:

Implement clear and fair systems for profit distribution, wages, and membership equity that build retention and commitment for the long term.

A Structure That Lasts:

Build a resilient, values-driven organization designed for growth, clear roles, and smooth succession.

Your Coach

My name is Fred Theriault, and since 2005, I have been collectively running a successful farm co-op in Québec.

We were 5 who started the Tourne-Sol Co-op Farm, and we are now 11 members making a living with this co-op business growing vegetables and seeds.

I also have a coaching and training business, The Farm Co-op Academy, dedicated to helping other farmers:

  • - Start successful farming co-operatives

  • - Improve their communication and decision making skills

  • - Better organize their enterprise and market strategies.

  • - Increase their overall quality of life and financial health.

The work you do is vital, but it is genuinely difficult. By investing in practical systems and strong co-op governance, you will gain the structure you need to continue living your dream, feeding your community, and taking care of your land.

Stories from our clients

Working with Frederic was a unique and incredibly helpful experience.

The most important work we tackled was building strong communication and governance systems—the very structures integral to our shifting business model.

Frederic’s mentorship was productive; he kept the ball moving and provided the experienced, fresh perspective we needed to realize our vision.

The meetings consistently gave us actionable items that helped us shift toward becoming a resilient community growers organization.

We highly recommend this program to any co-op seeking clarity and structure.
